Access works set for stations thanks to funding boost

A range of improvements will be carried out at 42 stations across England and Wales thanks to the Government's Access for All Small Schemes initiative. The funding will pay for a range of works including the installation of footbridges, accessible toilets, ramps and handrails.

Chris Mole said:

"We have seen an unprecedented growth in rail passengers over the last decade and that's why the Government is funding more carriages, better stations and faster, more efficient services.

"It's vital that all passengers benefit from this growth and that they're able to travel around the rail network with ease. The works announced today will help disabled passengers, the elderly and parents with pushchairs and people carrying heavy bags."

Today's announcement includes the provision of a new computer booking system to make it easier to reserve assistance for disabled passengers and the installation of new footbridges at Witham Station in Essex, Thornaby Station in Stockton-on-Tees and Barry Island Station in Wales.
