(MOD) Veterans decorated for acts of courage and gallantry attend the Falklands 25 \"heros\' dinner\"

The charity dinner, at the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich, is in aid of the Armed Forces Memorial that will bear the names of all those killed on duty with the Armed Forces since the end of the Second World War. Among nearly 16,000 names will be the names of the 255 who died in 1982 and the 30 who have been killed on duty in the Falkland Islands since. The evening begins with a service of remembrance in the Chapel of St Peter and St Paul.

HRH The Princess Royal, accompanied by Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, will be Guest of Honour. Sara Jones CBE DL, widow of Lieutenant Colonel 'H' Jones posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross for his leadership and bravery during the battle for Goose Green, will preside.

Minister for Veterans, Derek Twigg said:

"It will be an honour to be among so many distinguished guests. It is a reminder to me of the courage and selfless commitment our service men and women give to their colleagues and their country. It is a very real privilege to be able to serve them as Minister for Veterans."

Admiral Sir John Dunt, Chairman of the Armed Forces Memorial Trust said:

"The Armed Forces Memorial is a hugely important project. For the first time a national memorial will acknowledge the sacrifice of all those killed serving with the Armed Forces on operations or on training exercises, and the enormous sacrifice made by their families and friends whose lives have been changed forever.

"The memorial will be a living place, full of great energy and emotion; pride, joy and sadness. It will provide a reflective space where people of all ages, race and religion can come together to give thanks, acknowledge and learn more about the continuing cost of democratic and economic freedom."
